The day dawned crisp and clear, with finally a touch of summer in the air, perfect for the challenge that lay ahead. We gathered in Breda, ready to embark on the Estique Social Ride—a journey that would take us from the streets of Breda all the way to the vibrant city of Antwerp and back. The route stretched out before us, some 145 kilometers through forests and via fine gravel.
As we clipped into our pedals and set off, the city quickly gave way to the open countryside. The landscapes unfolded with each kilometer—rolling fields, quiet villages, and the occasional burst of woodland. The sun climbed higher, casting a golden glow. The miles seemed to melt away as we rode in a pretty neat tempo. The wind was our companion, sometimes challenging, sometimes a gentle push that carried us forward.
As we crossed the border into Belgium, the anticipation of reaching Antwerp grew. The city’s skyline emerged on the horizon. We navigated the streets with the same ease as we had the country roads, weaving through the city until we arrived at our destination: Nordica, a coffee haven for cyclists. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed us as we stepped into the terrace. We indulged in warm, gooey cinnamon buns, the perfect reward for our efforts. The coffee was rich and invigorating, the kind that fuels not just the body but the soul.
But our journey was only halfway done. With renewed energy, we mounted our bikes once more, this time heading back through the heart of Antwerp. We passed through the Stadspark, its serene beauty a brief contrast to the bustling city, and then we were on our way back to Breda. As Breda came into view once more, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. We had traveled far, not just in distance but in experience, each kilometer adding to the story of the day.
